The fuel is melted and escaping into the concrete containment floor

A new study by the Ministry of Energy announced that the RPV of Reactor 1 has failed, and over 85% of . The institute used a computer program to estimate the damage to the fuel rods, and calculate the damaged state of the fuel. The hole in the bottom of the containment vessel at Unit 1 caused by the melted fuel is estimated to by 64 cm. The results are very serious, the fuel cladding was damaged within a few hours of the earthquake, and had already begun pooling at the bottom of the RPV within 7.5 hours

Radioactive substances from the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant have now been confirmed in all prefectures, including Uruma, Okinawa Prefecture, about 1,700 kilometers from the plant, according to the science ministry.

The ministry said it concluded the radioactive substances came from the stricken nuclear plant because, in all cases, they contained cesium-134, which has short half-life of two years.

Before the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake, radioactive substance were barely detectable in most areas.......

America wake up and smell the Plutonium…

How much plutonium does it take
to overdose a person?

Plutonium is a highly toxic material. Attempts to deny or to obscure this fact are, we feel, irresponsible.

Some spokespersons for AECL and for the Government of Canada have suggested that there is no danger involved in MOX transport worthy of anyone’s serious consideration.

We feel compelled to point out that, although the probability of a severe accident that would release plutonium to the atmosphere is admittedly small, the potential health and environmental consequences of such an accident can be serious due to the extraordinary toxicity of plutonium when inhaled.

It is for this reason alone that the United States of America has made it illegal to transport plutonium by air in US territory. Such a prohibition does not exist for any other radioactive material.

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited has admitted, in documents submitted to Transport Canada, that in four out of eight categories of serious road transportation accidents, the MOX containers would be completely destroyed and a plume of plutonium dust would be spread downwind to a distance of about 80 kilometers.

Transport Canada has stated — not once, but several times, in its response to public commentaries about AECL’s plans for MOX transport by road — that transporting MOX by air is much more dangerous than doing it by road because of the health dangers of inhaling plutonium dust following an accident.

Industry and government spokespersons have insisted that120 grams of plutonium is too small an amount to raise legitimate health and environmental concerns. They have made the irrelevant observation that 120 grams of plutonium is about the size of two A-A batteries.

Such remarks are manipulative in nature; they do not help people to weigh the risk. The important quantity is not the VOLUME or MASS of plutonium, but its TOXICITY. Based on data supplied by AECB (see letter above) we can address the toxicity question as follows:

In principle, using AECB’s regulatory limits,
how many ”civilians” can be overdosed
by 100 grams of plutonium?

0.1 micrograms can overdose One civilian
0.1 grams can overdose One million civilians
1 gram can overdose ten million civilians
100 grams can overdose one billion civilians
600 grams can overdose six billion civilians

If there is a serious accident involving
120 grams of plutonium (in the form of MOX),
how many civilian overdoses could, in principle, result?

if NONE of the plutonium is safely contained there is a potential for one billion two hundred million civilian overdoses.

if 90 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
one hundred and twenty million civilian overdoses.

if 99.9 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for one hundred and twenty thousand civilian overdoses.

if 99.999 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
one thousand two hundred civilian overdoses.

In principle, using AECB’s regulatory limits,
how many ”atomic radiation workers” can be
overdosed by 140 grams of plutonium?

1.4 micrograms can overdose one atomic worker

1.4 grams can overdose one million workers

14 grams can overdose ten million workers

140 grams can overdose one hundred million workers

560 grams can overdose four hundred million workers

If there is a serious accident involving
600 grams of plutonium (in the form of MOX),
how many worker overdoses could, in principle, result?

if NONE of the plute is safely contained there is a potential for
four hundred twenty-five million worker overdoses

if 90 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
forty-two and a half million worker overdoses

if 99.9 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
forty-two and a half thousand worker overdoses

if 99.999 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
four hundred and twenty-five worker overdoses

If there is a serious accident involving
600 grams of plutonium (in the form of MOX),
how many civilian overdoses could, in principle, result?

if NONE of the plute is safely contained there is a potential for
six billion civilian overdoses

if 90 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
six hundred million civilian overdoses

if 99.9 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
six hundred thousand civilian overdoses

if 99.999 percent of it is safely contained there is a potential for
six thousand civilian overdoses

Each fuel rod contains 20% plutonium. There are 360 fuel pellets per rod. Estimated weight of pellets are 5 grams.

There are 264 fuel rods per assembly…

264 x 360 =95,040 (total fuel pellets per fuel assembly)

95,040 x 5 grams = 475,200 grams of nuclear fuel…

Divide 475,000 By 20% to find the quantity of plutonium…

475,000g x 0.20 (20%) = 95,040 grams of plutonium… (per fuel assembly)…

[link to]

We’d be lucky if we only had to worry about the spent fuel rods from a single holding pool. We’re not that lucky. The Fukushima Daiichi plant has seven pools for spent fuel rods. Six of these are (or were) located at the top of six reactor buildings. One “common pool” is at ground level in a separate building. Each “reactor top” pool holds 3450 fuel rod assemblies. The common pool holds 6291 fuel rod assemblies. [The common pool has windows on one wall which were almost certainly destroyed by the tsunami.] Each assembly holds two hundred sixty-three fuel rods. This means the Fukushima Daiichi plant may contain over 600,000 spent fuel rods.

So top fuel pool holds 3450 assemblies, common fuel pool holds 6291 assemblies…

Total: 9741 assemblies x 95,040g plutonium =

total =925,784,640g plutonium (in reactor 3 alone)…

now it gets fun…

925,784,640g plutonium / 10% = 92,578,464g plutonium

1.0g plutonium is equal to ten million Overdose’s…

92,578,464g plutonium x 10 million Overdoses =’s

Now if only 10% of the fuel in reactor 3 escaped…

927,584,640,000,000 Overdoses Globally

p.s. 1% is simply taking off 1, zero off the end...

So if only 1% of reactor 3 was released...
92,758,464,000,000 overdoses

0.1% of fuel released would be
9,275,846,400,000 overdoses...

So in that case if only 1 millionth of the fuel was release respectably, 9,275,846 would be potentially affected.

Though the likely hood of this is a theoretical impossibility...

Due to the amounts of radiation released to date, one can be and should be certain that at least 10 pounds of plutonium was released in March 2011...

2800 grams per pound (roughly). - 10 million overdoses per gram...

28,000,000,000 Overdoses.

In only a few months time winter will come. Pneumonia will likely be a heavy burden attributing to our already weakened lung chemistry.

Once the snow pack sets in, Trillions of ionizing radiation particles will be brought down in a horrific nuclear winter…

Shaking, fevers, congestion, aching bodies, & Sore throats will be our first indication that the harmful bioaccumulations of radionuclides is present…

Eventually our immune systems will decline to a sort of paradigm shift. What once used to heal our bodies of infections and diseases, will hamper our health even further as it attempts to rid us of our radiotoxins.

Come spring after the cold melts away ground water resting below our soil will obtain a level of MASS CONTAMINATION. Eventually leading to the nurturing of organic matter, heavily altered from its original genetic composition.

This same contaminated organic matter will be what we use to feed our nations live stock.

Our soils accumulative absorption of radiation; will sooner than not: plague our crops, irradiate our loved ones, and eventually cause mass pandemic.

By February, of 2012, International governments will begin to effectively monitor the damage of 2011 alone… Issues will be raised, fingers will be pointed… Too little too late.

We had and have a very limited amount of time to act on fukushima.

If the reactors continue to create airborne radiation plumes; This in addition to the burning of radioactive materials. This winter will be all that I promised A NUCLEAR ONE.

I heavily advise all enenews users, to have both food and water, as well as any other emergency supplies prior to Oct 2011. In my opinion, the coming winter will we horrific.

Trust your own instincts. & as always cheers

Real Time EPA RadNet Japan Nuclear Radiation Monitoring For Every Major City In The Entire US On A Single Page

River near Fukushima contains 50 BILLION BQ into ocean PER DAY!!!!!!

A joint study by Kyoto University and University Tsukuba, among other entities, estimated that water at the mouth the Abukumagawa river running through the prefecture was contaminated with cesium levels over 50 billion becquerels a day.
The findings showed that the Abukumagawa river is releasing up to 52.4 billion becquerels of cesium per day into the sea, the report said.
The study indicates that over a period of two days the amount of cesium being discharged by the river would exceed the total amount released by Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501.TO), operator of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, in an operation to drain in April.
The Asahi Shimbun
The daily radiation levels are equivalent to the total of amount of cesium in low-level contaminated water released into the sea in April by Tokyo Electric Power Co., operator of the stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

Greenpeace seafood analysis finds more Fukushima radioactive contamination

As our team in Japan continues to monitor the radioactive contamination of land and sea that resulted from the destruction of the Fukushima Daiichi reactors, we’re still finding very disturbing evidence.

Between October 12 and November 8 our team, led by Greenpeace Japan Oceans Campaigner Wakao Hanaoka, took seafood samples from the same five supermarket chains - Aeon, Ito Yokado, Uny (Apita), Daiei and Seiyu - [DW1] as featured in the first round of research, taking 15 samples from each. Of the 75 samples, radioactive cesium 134 and 137 were detected in 27. There was no company whose products were not contaminated.

The Pacific cod wasn’t the only contaminated fish we found. Cesium 134 and 137 were detected in all five samples of Bigeye tuna we took and in all five samples of Skipjack tuna.

Although the level of contamination was not very high (4.6 Becquerel per kg), there is no detailed information about the fish’s origin such as where it was caught and what type of mackerel it is. The label on the can simply says “made in Japan”. The government's labelling regulation for canned fish and processed fish products is far less stringent than for fresh fish products and needs to be addressed immediately.

We can only hope that government agencies can remain as vigilant over other contamination that has been spread so widely across the country.

N-fuel conditions unclear

Tatsuo Nakajima / Yomiuri Shimbun Staff Writer

The latest timetable for bringing a nuclear fuel meltdown at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant under control shows the situation is no longer in the critical condition it was immediately following the accident, but many issues remain unsolved.

The government and Tokyo Electric Power Co. have revised the timetable for the seventh time in the eight months since the crisis began. Data suggests the reactors and radioactive material are under control, and the power plant will achieve a cold shutdown once required conditions are confirmed.
However, the status of the molten nuclear fuel is unclear. It is not known how the fuel, believed to have partially melted through pressure vessels of the reactors and into containment vessels, has dispersed and how much lies in water.

It is questionable to assess the situation as nearly a cold shutdown. Usually, to achieve a cold shutdown, all fuel rods should be cooled under water, and nuclear fuel, pressure and containment vessels should be intact and in good condition.

The situation at the nuclear plant does not meet this definition. Is it appropriate for the government and TEPCO to call the current status nearly a cold shutdown?

Radiation contamination likely in western Japan, Hokkaido

November 23, 2011
The Asahi Shimbun
By Susumu Yoshida / Staff Writer
Radioactive substances spewed out by the quake-stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant have likely spread to western Japan and Hokkaido, according to a team of Japanese, U.S. and European scientists.Their findings were published in the Nov. 14 online edition of the Proceedings of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

Japan’s science ministry said radioactive contamination spread only as far west as the areas near the border between Nagano and Gunma prefectures. However, it conceded there was a possibility, albeit small, of contamination west of that line.

Experts Admit Fukushima is Causing Hidden Cancer Deaths

Health and radiation experts are now admitting that the Fukushima disaster is contributing to an unknown number of deaths as a result of increasing cancer rates around the globe.

They are also stating that these deaths will be ‘hidden’ from the public eye due to a lack of accurate identification when it comes to targeting Fukushima-related cancer deaths.......

Radiation covers 8% of Japan

By North Asia correspondent Mark Willacy

Japan's science ministry says 8 per cent of the country's surface area has been contaminated by radiation from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.
It says more than 30,000 square kilometres of the country has been blanketed by radioactive caesium.
The ministry says most of the contamination was caused by four large plumes of radiation spewed out by the Fukushima nuclear plant in the first two weeks after meltdowns.
The government says some of the radioactive material fell with rain and snow, leaving the affected areas with accumulations of more than 10,000 becquerels of caesium per square metre.
Last week tests found unsafe levels of radioactive contamination in recently harvested rice from the Fukushima region.....

Yomiuri: 451 deaths “due to physical deterioration triggered by the disaster” — Number expected to increase dramatically — From “long-term fatigue and worsening of chronic diseases”

In prefectures affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, including Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima, 451 people have been recognized by local municipalities as having died due to physical deterioration triggered by the disaster as of the end of October, it has been learned.

It's interesting that we now know that the Tsunammi, not only wrecked peoples lives, but sucked debris and tonnes of nuke waste into the ocean.
What is more interesting is that we (the populous of the world), had no idea how contaminated the flotsam and jetsum would be.
There are several emergencies attached to this problem.
Firstly, we have no real media coverage of where it is and how it is dispersing. We have the technology to know, so why aren't we informend? Kind of a moot point given the amount of information we are fed vis a vis about ANYTHING.
Secondly, I find it disturbing that we are not told about the levels of radiation amongst the debris, apart from don't touch it.. don't pick it up....
And lastly... this stuff is arriving for you the Americans, and the Oceanic community, months before earlier predictions stated. This creates even more of an internation crisis that thus far, has been poorly deliberated, discussed, reported nor dealt with....

MOST of the radioactive fallout from the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant dropped into the ocean and began circling the planet, Japanese researchers say

Up to 80 per cent of the caesium released by the Fukushima Daiichi power plant following the March 11 disaster landed in the Pacific and made its way into other oceans around the world, scientists at the Meteorological Research Institute said."The rest has fallen on land" in and around Fukushima, said Hiroshi Takahashi, a researcher at the institute in Ibaraki, northeast of Tokyo.

..............I know its hard to keep up, its a depressing thing all round, and the news is really slow.
I just read that a robot detected something like 1.32 serviants inside reactor three.
People in Japan are starting to show signs of contamination from doing "decontamination" work. Marks on their faces, the same as hiroshima. Back then it was called something like "city entering signs" or something like that. Remembering that it was measured in only a few pounds of uranium used. As compared to what, 6000 tonnes?
Apperently the rain, sinking into the ground as it does, has taken the radioactive particles deeper into the ground, so the deeper they dig, the more the contamination. I think they are starting to realise that it is a waste of time......

Philippe here,
I'll just summarize.
No breaking news there for readers of this blog, but for europe MSM, a precise and shocking report.
(At the end: the reporter is said to be "in love with Japan", knows pretty well the country it seems.)
25 million tons burnable waste is woth a lot of money to make electricity.
Problem of ashes. The Yokohama Mayor ordered to 'landfill" without letting citizens know. Mayor team seems embarrassed.
A construction worker - " probably with ties to yakuzas - speaks like a gangster " quarels with the city; " radioactive cement (from sludge) spread all over Japan" he says.
Mother scared for her daughter. Food and washing teeth with bottled water. Complains radiation levels for adults are not fit for children.
The real-estate boss in his very luxury home is part of a citizens group who refuse this waste.
Shamed and woried about the contamination of the ocean.
Then the reporter's interview.
Children are 1rst victims.
In Fugushima physicians refuse to test children, in order not to have to give alarming results.
Authorities there do every thing they can to keep people in the place.
Many cases of acute leukemia.
Old people die of stress, suicide, in numbers X 2 from before.

Using children to decontaminate

In Yokohama, schools and kindergartens continue merrily on their autumnal event of picking fallen leaves and burning them in a pile to roast sweet potatoes (triple horrors). On top of that, some schools are going to make pupils clean the park. At this point, cleaning the park means decontaminating the park.

Fukushima health concerns Japan Times MSM

Summary of Report (now they leaking so we get a little peeking)

.......As efforts to end the nuclear disaster at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant drag on, it is important for the central and local governments to step up their efforts to closely examine the health conditions of people concerned and to decontaminate areas contaminated by radiation......

......Tepco and the central government must do their best to prevent workers' overexposure to radiation and take necessary measures should workers become overexposed to radiation......

.......It is of great concern that little has been disclosed regarding the conditions of the workers at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. Tepco and the central government should disseminate information on the actual working conditions of these people, even if such information seems repetitious ......

.......Andreas Stohl of the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, estimates that the accidents released about 36,000 terabecquerels of radioactive cesium 137 from their start through April 20. It is more than three times the estimate by Japan's Nuclear Safety Commission and 42 percent of the estimated release from Chernobyl..........

.....But when it had mentioned the limit of 100 millisieverts in July, it explained that the limit covered both external and internal radiation exposure. Its new announcement means that the government has not set the limit for external radiation exposure. It also failed to clarify whether the new dose limit is safe enough for children and pregnant women.........

......In areas near Fukushima No. 1 power plant, many hospitals' functions have weakened because doctors and nurses have left. ....

[and finally]

......Urgent efforts must be made to beef up medical staffing at these hospitals.......

Japan Fukushima Nuclear Cover-Up Exposed by New International Report

But now, an independent study has effectively demolished TEPCO and the Japanese government's carefully constructed minimalist scenario. Mainichi news agency reported that France's l'Institut de Radioprotection et de Surete Nucleaire (Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, or IRSN) has issued a recent report stating that the amount of radioactive cesium-137 that entered the Pacific after 11 March was probably nearly 30 times the amount stated by Tokyo Electric Power Co. in May.
According to IRSN, the amount of the radioactive isotope cesium-137 that flowed into the ocean from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant between March 21 and mid-July reached an estimated 27.1 quadrillion becquerels.
Why should this matter? Aren't the Japanese authorities on top of the issue?
Cesium-137 can cause burns, acute radiation sickness and even death at sufficient doses. It can contaminate food and water and, if ingested, gets distributed around the body, where it builds up in soft tissues, such as muscles. Over time, it is expelled from the body in urine.

Breaking news “fission restarted at reactor 2″

Posted by Mochizuki on November 1st, 2011 · 4 Comments

Xenon133 and 135 are measured at reactor 2. Xenon is daughter of Uranium 235,half life time is 5.2 days(Xenon133),and 9 hours (Xenon135).
It proves the nuclear fuel is fissioning at reactor 2 still.
Tepco has starting injecting boric-acid solution into the (broken) reactor.
At reactor 2,Tepco finally started analyzing air filter of the container vessel on10/28/2011. As the result, they detected xenon 133 and 135. It may have been fissioning since months ago.
