Fukushima art festival opens with huge wrapping cloth covering park lawn

(Mainichi)FUKUSHIMA -- Art festival "FUKUSHIMA!" opened at a park here on Aug. 15 covered with a huge patched wrapping cloth made of sheets and towels sent from around the country to help reduce radiation exposure for visitors.
Organizers of the event laid down the huge patched wrapping cloth spread across the 6,000-squaremeter lawn at the "Shiki no Sato" park, or "The Village of Four Seasons," after receiving advice from Shinzo Kimura, a part-time lecturer of radiation hygiene at Hokkaido University, who said, "You can avoid getting radiation by simply laying down a piece of cloth on the ground." Up to 0.71 microsieverts of radiation per hour were detected in the atmosphere 10 centimeters above the ground at the park without the wrapping cloth.
